(European Article Numbering) A numeric code, consisting of either 8 digits (EAN 8) or 13 digits (EAN 13). It is compatible to the American UPC (Universal Product Code) as well as the Japanese JPC (Japanese Product Code). The most decoder/interfaces enable an automatic recognition of EAN and UPC barcodes.
