Biometrics terminals from Kaba ensure simple and secure data recording

The increased use of biometrics is not only due to increased security demands. It is primarily also convenience requirements and the wish for clearer and more secure data recording that are resulting in more biometrics applications in the data recording area. Kaba here is putting its faith in the fingerprint and is offering all Kaba Benzing terminals for time & attendance, access control and shop floor data collection with biometrics with immediate effect. The integrated biometric identification unit guarantees its stable use and fast response times. The module features an internal database for 500 (optionally up to 5,000) employees.

The employees’ fingerprint data are stored in the reader and in a central database. The collection process is simple and fast. When a person requests access or wants to record his/her working time, he/she first selects the required function and is then asked to identify himself/herself. Touching the sensor briefly with their finger is sufficient. The booking is accepted as soon as the corresponding template has been found in the database. The entire identification process takes approximately one second and does not require a badge. In the few cases in which a person cannot be recorded biometrically, the ID number can be entered via the key pad for the booking.

A simple enrolment is sufficient to record the template. The sophisticated system for distributing the templates now also supports centrally distributed systems as well as a local and central enrolment of the employees. The more carefully the fingers are read, the more secure and rapid the subsequent identification process is at the terminal. The client-server architecture of the enrolment software means that fingers can be read in parallel at several stations. The templates are then distributed to all biometrics terminals via a server. Here, the correct fingerprint is not saved and distributed further. Instead, the biological fingerprint is converted into a column of digits via an algorithm. The copying of an authorized fingerprint does not therefore result in a positive identification.

A biometrics system such as this one is not only secure and reliable; it also saves time and money. Because there are no longer any costs for badges and badge management. In addition, far fewer missing bookings have to be entered at a later date.
