Flexible management of security level: Security Navigation System

SNS

The choice of a unit for physical access control involves accepting a compromise between security level, convenience and throughput rate. Whatever the unit – tripod barrier, turnstile or sensor barrier, once the operator has chosen a solution, the relation between these three parameters (security level, convenience and throughput rate) is established and can only be changed minimally or with time and effort.
The Security Navigation System (SNS) allows for a flexible and easy adjustment of the security level of a unit.

SNSThe concept SNS was presented at the Security Exhibition in Essen and demonstrated on an Argus HSB-S05 sensor barrier. Similar to fishing net, the light grid of the sensor system builds an invisible “security net” inside the corridor to detect persons when crossing the unit. With SNS the stitches of the net can be adjusted to be close to each other or loose – thus varying the security level of the unit. This provides flexibility to match the particular situation in the building, the throughput rate wished and the time of the day – for instance shift changeover, peak hours (beginning and end of work), times with reduced reception staff or for events.
The system is applicable for all Kaba access control units monitored by sensors and will be further developed in 2009.
