Platform Screen Doors 

This business area is devoted entirely to the burgeoning market segment of platform screen doors (PSDs) for metro systems: platform screen doors play a central role in controlling passenger flows, and enhance passenger comfort and safety as well as service capacity. In addition to a broad range of products, the Kaba Group also offers advice, project management and construction, installation and maintenance – all from a single source. 

Platform screen doors separate the platform from the track. This separation makes for better prevention of tragic accidents; furthermore, it permits higher arrival and departure speeds for the trains, thus shortening the overall stop time, and enabling service frequency to be increased significantly. The installation of platform screen doors also allows better air conditioning in the station. Full-height platform screen doors keep the pressure waves, heat and dust away from the platforms, creating a pleasant environment for passengers as well as having a positive impact on energy use in air conditioning. 

The Kaba Group offers half-height and full-height platform screen doors, in standard or tailored design. The product range is rounded off with panels or emergency escape doors filling the spaces between the PSD modules, as well as lighting and integrated advertising space. 

With successful installations for the metro systems in Hong Kong and New York and ongoing projects in Kaohsiung, Taipei, Beijing (Olympic Line) and Shanghai, the Kaba Group has made a name for itself in the Asia Pacific region in particular as a reliable partner for major projects. The Group has also now taken on major work in this area  – thanks to the commission received from the Paris Métro in spring 2007 for Europe's first and biggest modernization project involving platform screen doors.
